Chill-Out Cookies for Dogs
In light of the recent current events, I like to call "Beautiful Bombs Explode Over Your House Day" but the rest of the country's population may call it the Fourth of July, I think a recipe share is in order. Our dog, Chester, as many other dogs out there, hate days around the fourth. We like to help him get through this time with a little help from nature. We give him a couple "Chill-Out Cookies" and he begins to get less annoyed and more relaxed during all the boom booms.
I'd say he looks pretty relaxed. As you can see, Chester is an Australian Sheperd. Australian Shepherds are very energetic and this guy is also very vocal around other beings. These cookies are also helpful when we know we are going to have company visiting. Also, the herbs in it are good for our fur babies. Chamomile aid digestion, help prevent stomach ulcers, depresses the central nervous system, relieves arthritic joint inflammation, and topically applied helps prevent infections. Lavender relaxes the mind and calms the skin topically. Lemonbalm helps soothe and relax when one is stressed or irritable, it helps reduce inflammation and helps aid digestion. These are definitely something I want in my cookies as well.
Ingredients:
1 cup coconut flour
1/2 cup apple butter or apple sauce
2 large eggs
1/3 cup coconut oil
and 32 tea bags, cut open, and just save the herbs of chamomile, lavender, lemon balm mix, I use the Traditional Medicinals brand because that is what I drink too.
Mix all ingredients together. This will be a very crumbly blend. Heat oven to 275° F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. I use a tsp to fill it with cookie dough, pressing down firmly and smoothing it out. I then tap the spoon on the edge of the bowl until the cookie pops out, and place it on the cookie sheet.
The cookies can be placed as close as you like, to fit more on your sheet. No worries, the won't spread and stick to each other. Bake the cookies for 45 minutes. Let cookies cool completely before storing them in an airtight container. I give my 45# dog 2 cookies when preparing for an event and 1 cookie each night before bed. I have been known to have one with him from time to time. If it's not good enough for you, it's not good enough for Fido. I hope you enjoy making these cookies as much as I do.
Keep brewing, keep cooking, and most definitely keep healing,
