Laundry Soap Concentrate

I have been making my own laundry soap for at least 13 years now and it has changed over time. I sued to make it in a 5 gallon bucket, but it would separate over time and I would often have to reblend it before uses. Now I make a concentrate and I love it!

1 Bar Fels Naptha bar
1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax
1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
4 cups hot water

Mix the Borax and washing soda in a bowl and set aside.
In a large sauce pan, heat water over high heat.
Grate the Fels Naptha bar using a hand grater or cutting up to fit in a food processor.
Add grated soap to the water, turning down heat to medium. Stir slowly, constantly,  for 15 minutes, allowing soap to fully dissolve. Be sure to turn the temp down if the liquid starts creeping up. It can tend to boil over quite quickly.

Once the soap has completely melted, remove from heat and add the Borax and Washing soda mix. Stir constantly for 5 minutes, or until everything is fully dissolved and does not  feel grainy.

Pour into 2 quart jars equally and add water to bring the liquid to the shoulders. Put the lids on tightly and turn the jars upside down.  After 4 hours, whip the soap. I use a immersion blender.

This should be about 120-128 loads of laundry worth of soap, using 1 Tbs per load. I do tend to use 1.5 Tbs for those muddy loads.

If you would like to add a few drops of essential oils to the soap, I would start with 15 drops per jar, before you blend. I do this from time to time with lavender or rose.

I hope you try this out and enjoy it as much as I do.

And as always,

Keep brewing, keep cooking, and most of all keep healing,

Have a happy and healthy day,

MysTorri

Do your best, even when you don't want to
